Another great shop

I realized on my way home today that I hadn't done my CVS shop for the week.  Good thing that I didn't just skip it!

I got 3 Hershey bars and 6 packs of Trident Layers gum.

The total for all of that was $2.36.  I used $1.99 of Extra Care Bucks, paid 37 cents, and got $1 back in Extra Care Bucks!

Here's how it worked:

I had a free coupon for a Hershey aerated bar, and then scanned my card to print a free coupon for a Caramello.  (They were out of both, so I was able to substitute for other Hershey bars).  All Hershey bars were buy 2 (free ones count) get 1 free.  That's 3 free chocolate bars!

Trident gum was on sale for 99 cents a pack.  I had two coupons for $2 off of 3.  So, 6 for $1.94.

The difference was tax (I guess Florida doesn't consider that list to be "food").  Dollar back?  Fourth shop on the green bag tag.

Full size freebie

All you have to do is like CVS's Minute Clinic on Facebook and you will be emailed a coupon for a free full size moisturizing body wash.

I hope they smell good - that's always my body wash criteria!

Oh, and don't forget to use your green bag tag, and you'll actually make a (35 cent) profit on this freebie.

Things to buy at CVS this week

Definitely...
  • Diet Coke (because you can never have too much!) 5 for $13 (or $2.60 each)
  • Hershey's Bliss (the big packs!) are FREE!  They are $5.99 and you get the whole amount back in Extra Care Bucks.

Maybe...

  • Hawaiian Tropic Lip Balm.  The ad says $10 extra care bucks when you buy any two (non baby) Hawaiian Tropic items.  If lip balm counts, that's a great money maker!

Aerated chocolate - new to me

So, I have no idea what aerated chocolate is, but it's chocolate and it's free so I'll be finding out!

Just click here and you can print your coupon for a free aerated Hershey's bar from CVS too.  And, two.  I was able to print this twice.  You know, in case I'm not sure I like it after the first one.

Here is the Huffington Post's take on the new chocolate.

So, Pepsi isn't my thing (if you've been reading this you know I'm a Diet Coke girl), but CVS is having a great deal tomorrow.

12 packs of Pepsi or Diet Pepsi for just 99 cents!  Use your Green Bag Tag and it is as if you save another quarter.  Just scan your ExtraCare card for the coupon before you checkout.

Disappointment

Remember the great Publix gas card deals that we have seen a few times lately?  Well, I was excited that CVS was jumping on the free gas bandwagon. Free $10 gas card, great!  How to earn it, less than great.

Let's review: Publix deal was that if you spent $25, you could get $10 off of a $50 gas card.  Great!  Only downside was that you had to shell out $40 then and there for the gas card.  Which meant it was maybe more acurately 20% off of a $50 gas card than $10 of free gas.  Fine.

CVS deal is that if you spend $30 on select products you get a free $10 gas card.  I really like the full out freeness of the gas card, but the product requirements are too limiting.  At first, I though that this would build across weeks, like my green bag tag points, but it doesn't.  You have to spend $30 in one week to qualify.  And, those products have quantity limits.  Oh, and you can only get one gas card per week.

I will be keeping my eye on the product list each week - easy to do since they will all have this symbol - and will share with you as they are announced.  But, I'm not holding my breath for free gas on this one.  Sorry CVS, but you could do better.
Here is the list that you can buy from this week to qualify:

  • Gatorade or Sobe 32 oz or 20 oz - BOGO (limit 8)
  • Doritos or Tostitos - 2/$5 (limit 6)
  • Coke 2 liters - $.99 (Limit 5)
  • Lysol Disinfecting spray 19 oz or wipes 80 ct - $5
  • Jet Dry Rinse 8.45 oz, Gelpacs or powerball tabs 20 ct $2.99
  • Hershey's, Reeses Singles - B2G1 Free (limit 9)
  • Folger's Coffee 22.6-33.9 - $8.99
  • Edy's Ice Cream 48 oz - BOGO $5.49 (limit 4)
  • Twizzlers 11-32 oz - $2
  • Swedish Fish, Sour Patch 16 oz, M&M's 9.9 - 15.4 oz - $2.50
  • M&M Bags 19.2 oz - $4
  • Palmolive 10 oz $.88

Those nickels add up

We previously discussed the green bag tags at CVS that basically give you a quarter back each time you shop. That's still the best one I know of, but Target also has an incentive for bringing your own bag.  If you decline their bags at checkout, make sure to remind your cashier to scan the discount for you.  Five cents will be deducted from your total.  Good for the environment, and for the often out of control shopping that Target tends to induce.

Never pay for....

Toothpaste!

This is a little more difficult if you are picky and only buy a specific toothpaste, but I am here to tell you that it could be worth trying something new.

Nearly every week there is a deal where you can get free toothpaste at one of the drugstores.  Right now, I have six sitting under my bathroom sink, which will last me for ages.  But, how can I pass up free (or even money makers?), so I keep getting more and donating them.

This week, free toothpaste is at CVS.  Colgate Maxclean, Smartfoam, MaxWhite or MaxFresh 6 oz is $2.77, and then you get $2.77 back in Extra Care Bucks.  Deal limit: 2, so grab them both.

Other hot deals at CVS this week:

Get $1 in Extra Care Bucks when you buy three bags of Frito-Lay chips, and the individual size bags are on sale, 3/$1.  Deal limit: 5 (which means 15 free bags!)

Get $1 in ECB when you buy Charmin - includes Charmin Basic 12 roll pack. Deal limit: 1

Get $5 in ECB when you buy 2 DSW $25 gift cards. Deal limit: 1

CVS Gift card deal

CVS is running a great gift card deal right now!

For every $25 gift card you buy, you will get a $5 bonus added to your gift card value.  Math isn't my strong suit, but I'm thinking that's an extra 20% free if I calculated correctly.

This deal is good only for egift cards, which means that you must buy online and then print to use in store.  There is no expiration for when you have to use them by, but it does state that this is a limited time offer, so I don't know how long the deal will last.  If CVS is somewhere you shop, you might as well grab one while you can!

Do you have a green bag tag?

Do you know what they are?

Green bag tags are free money in my book.  You buy one at CVS and then scan it each time you buy something.  On every fourth visit, you get $1 in Extra Bucks printed on your receipt.  Scanning your tag only counts once a day (so you can't buy 10 things in 10 transactions all at once and make $2.50), but I consider it to be a 25 cent discount each time I shop.  You're supposed to attach it to a reusable bag, but I just carry mine in my purse - and keep an extra in my glove compartment for when I don't have my full purse with me.  Oh, and you're not supposed to get the plastic bags when you use it.  So, bring your own or carry the stuff loose!

Anyhow, the reason for this little green bag tag lesson today is that this week (today through Saturday) at CVS you can buy your bag tag for 99 cents and get an instant 99 cents back in Extra Bucks.  What are you waiting for?  Go pick yours up today and start earning free money!
